Using Face ID to Unlock Your Phone is Crazy

I agree Apple should rethink Face ID, but not the way this author says.

Apple should remove the ability to use Face ID to unlock the device*, since it’s insane. Your face is public information. Even if you aren’t present, you’re relying on the attacker’s technology in replicating your face being weaker than Apple’s technology in detecting the fraud. All this for what… avoiding having to type 6 numbers you have deeply memorized in muscle memory?

I do use Face ID, but only as an extra layer on certain apps (eg password manager) in an already-unlocked phone.

* The one use case I would accept is accessibility for people who cannot reliably type a passcode.
